Columbia Omni-Dri Limitless Convertible Pant : Versatile & Efficient

I just got back from a four-day backpacking trip during which I wore my new Columbia Omni-Dri Limitless Convertible Pants.  I never imagined how convenient zip off pant legs would be.

Even before the trip started they were making life easier. I did not have to weigh the pros and cons of whether to bring shorts, pants or both.   That was already taken care of.

I started out in "shorts" mode because it was a warm day, but the bugs began to get thick along the way. I never would have made the effort to change pants but zipping the legs on was a breeze. It kept the mosquitoes off my legs, and the fabric was light enough that it was comfortable to hike in, even on a warm afternoon.

Just a mile from camp we discovered that the bridge had been washed away. We waded through the thigh deep river.   Once on the other side, my pants started to dry almost immediately, and in about 40 minutes I was completely dry.    No worries about chafing from walking in wet pants.

As it started to get dark and the temperature dropped, it was so much warmer to wear the long pants over my long johns rather than just shorts... what I probably would have done if I had chosen only to wear shorts on this trip.

Bottom Line : Not only was it easy to switch between shorts and long pants but a nice bonus feature was that the zippers on all the pockets made sure little things like my lighter, knife, and lip balm were always right there when I needed them.--A.S. (July '08)
