Wolverine Montgomery Boot
Who knew that a Michigan-based work boot company made a line of urban footwear fancy enough for Neiman Marcus to carry? Wolverine's Montgomery boot, part of the company's 1000 Mile collection of classically designed boots and shoes, looks like a boot gentlemen wore 100 years ago....with a few twists. The polished leather gives the boot a dressy look. The light padding around the ankles and around the top edge of the boot - gives it the feel of old-school hiking boot. The cap-style toe, welted construction, and treaded soles remind me of a utilitarian military boot. It all ads up to some seriously stylish footwear! I love a good lace-up boot, and I really appreciate a boot with a serious sole. The Montgomery is made like men's dress shoes used to be made: with a leather sole and stacked heel that's built to last (and can also be replaced when the time comes). The sole has a treaded rubber top layer that provides great traction when I wear my boots on wet pavement or go for a walk on the trail in the park near my house. The Montgomery boot is quite versatile; I can wear it with casual dress wear or with jeans. It's a very comfortable boot that's very stable and supportive. It's so nice find quality footwear that is both stylish and simple. Available in black and in brown, men's sizes 7-13 D (some styles available in EEE width). Wolverine also makes women's boots. This boot runs long. I went down a full size, but wear the boot with very thin socks. If you prefer thick socks or wear a thick orthotic, you may want to only go down 1/2 size. Bottom Line: Work boot comfort with street style. I'll be wearing this boot for years to come. E.D. (May 2011) BUY ONLINE: $235. Manufacturer's Site: www.wolverine.com
