Tsubo Warra Shoe : Sleek Slip-Ons

For styles points alone, I've been a big fan of Tsubo shoes for a long time. Now that they've started using Vibram soles on some of their men's styles, I also get the stability and durability of a more active shoe in a sleek, lightweight street shoe. A perfect combination.

I have a closet literally bursting with black, brown, and gray shoes and boots, but all I ever want to wear these days are my Tsubo Warra or Wokolo shoes.

I'm all for comfort shoes, and here in the Northwest everyone wears trail shoes everywhere. I'd like to think I'm a bit more fashionable. The Warra is an attractive alternative to those clunky suede and nubuck slip-on shoes that have become so popular. They're also ideal for travel. When I visit other cities, where people actually wear "dress" clothes (rather thtan fleece tops and climbing or cargo pants), I can fit right in (even though my sweet slip-ons stand out and let people know that I know a thing or two about looking good.)

The black leather uppers have a simple, elegant design, featuring a single raised seam running along the center of the shoe. The soft, padded mesh material around the ankle gives the shoe a sporty look. The Warra shoe is a perfect fit for me. It has a nice rounded toe box and easily accommodates my D-to-EE width foot. I like that the shoe has a removable insole so I can replace it with my full-length, custom-made orthotic.

I normally don't like slip-on shoes because they feel too sloppy on my feet. Not the Warra. These shoes hug my feet; I've never experienced any slippage in the heels. (Of course, I use a shoe horn to keep my shoes in good shape.)

Finally, I really appreciate the Vibram sole. Too many fun street shoes just don't work for me because they have such thin soles. I like to walk everywhere, so I love the thicker sole Tsubo uses on this shoe. It's seriously scored, too, like a top-quality automobile tire. I walk all over Seattle's wet, slippery sidewalks, and my Warra shoes grip the pavement like crazy. Sweet.

Available in black and in brown. Tsubo also makes shoes for women.

Bottom Line: I love these shoes. I wish more companies would find a way to combine fashion, comfort, and functionality as well as Tsubo has.-- E.D. (Feb 08)
