Tsubo Men's Anville Suede Boot : "Bringin' It All Back Home"

Now that I've made the leap to skinny jeans, I might as well upgrade my footwear. Why walk around in the same clunky shoes everyone else has?

Tsubo's Anville Suede boot is a real change of pace for me - and I like that. This slick, smooth, savvy boot gives me a funky retro look that really steps up my coolness quotient when I'm out for the night or just strolling through an art gallery during my lunch break.

I admit that at first, I wasn't sure I could pull off the look. I was afraid the boots were a bit elfin. My girlfriend insisted I broaden my footwear horizons, and pointed out that these slim-styled boots were reminiscent of the footwear Bob Dylan wore in Don't Look Back. She was right, of course, and how cool did he look in that movie? I'll never have the hair or the musical talent, but I figured some freewheelin' footwear might be exactly when I needed to update my look.

I've been wearing my Anville Suede boots with jeans for evening outings, and have actually received compliments on them. I've never worn shoes or boots before that people noticed! Not that I want attention drawn to my feet - just that I'm big enough to admit that I like the validation I'm getting with my new style.

I'm glad the boots have a removable footbed so I can swap it out for my full-length custom insole. My insole is fairly substantial, but it fit in the boot just fine and I didn't need to go up 1/2 size.

I also like the sole on this lightweight boot. I normally prefer classic leather soles (with a normal heel, like a typical men's dress shoe), but I appreciate Tsubo's grippy ovals on the bottom of the shoe that give me traction on a variety of urban surfaces, even when wet. Also key - these boots are comfortable. They're tapered at the toe, but the tapering begins at the end of my feet. So, my big wide dogs don't get pinched. Essential.
