Tsonga Shaka Boots : Shake It, Shake It

Here's the cool thing about these fleece-lined boots. They lace up in design that fits and adjusts to any leg. No, it's the luscious colors. No, wait, it's the super comfy bedroom slipper feel. Or is it the fact that they are made by Tsonga tribeswomen in the mountains of Zulu, South Africa? I mean how cool is that?

OK, clearly I can't pick just one reason WHY I love these boots. There are just too many reasons to love them.

Tsonga's Shaka boots are like indoor/outdoor bedroom slippers in a soft, suede, mukluk style. So comfortable. And stylish but with a different look than all those other super popular fleece lined boots that everyone else is wearing. Every time I wear them, bar none, someone at the office or in the elevator exclaims "cute boots!"

Another great thing about these boots--I can wear them indoors all day long.  Now this means they aren't really for hiking or long slogs thru the snow -- sure they are durable and warm and good on ice with the crepe rubber sole for traction--but they aren’t exclusively for outdoor use. Scroll down to read "The Tsonga Story."

Bottom Line: Comfy, cute, warm, and groovy South African hand-stitched style.--E.S. (Feb 06)

**The Tsonga Story**

Nestled in a small rural village in the beautiful foothills of the Drakenberg Mountains in the Kingdom of the Zulu, in South Africa, each pair of TSONGA shoes is hand-stitched by Joanna and other talented African craftswomen of the Tsonga tribe.

Cut from some of the finest leather in the world, Tsonga's leather uppers are meticulously hand-stitched to their unique soles by the village craft women. With each stitch, the handcrafted comfort TSONGA is famous for is integrated into every shoe.

In an area with high unemployment, TSONGA has provided Joanna and others in her community a valuable employment opportunity, and as a result this little village has been rejuvenated. TSONGA also assists in educating and uplifting the community with outreach programs aimed at improving the quality of life of every individual. The tribal chief has little doubt over the role Tsonga has played in his tribe's rejuvenation, and believes the employment offered has truly been a blessing from the ancestors.

Tsonga is a business, like many others, but our pride in our people is our passion. They are our investment.
