Tilley Women's Liberty Print Fitted Shirt : An Updated Classic

I've been a fan of Liberty of London's luxuriously thin cotton floral printed shirts since I first visited London in 1985. So I was delighted when I discovered that Tilley Endurables was using their fabric to make smart, easy-care button-down travel shirts for men and women.

I've been wearing Tilley's Women's Liberty Print Fitted Shirt for weeks, and I love it! It's a big step up in style and in quality from many travel shirts I've seen. In fact, it looks nothing like a travel shirt, which is why it's perfect for me. I don't like those blouses with chest pockets. I like to look a bit more refined when I travel, not like I'm going on safari.

The Liberty Print Fitted Shirt is slimmer than a traditional blouse, with darts in the back for a more tailored look, but still has a loose fit. (I'm 6' tall and have an ample chest, so I normally avoid fitted shirts; this one looks great on me and is supremely comfortable!)

I really appreciate the detail used in making this shirt. The french cuffs have an attractive and functional button tab at the wrists which allows me to wear them in an extended position or unbuttoned and folded back for a dressier look. The collar is on the narrow side (and the collar seam is sealed with a contrast colored ribbon). The stitching all over the shirt is perfect (and sturdy). Tilley uses the same ribbon from the inside collar along the length of the end of the shirt, under the buttons, to provide a durable "anchor" for the buttons. It also looks sharp and makes the black buttons easy to find on the black print fabric.

Of course, the Liberty of London print fabric is beautiful. Some Liberty fabrics (and cuts) can look a bit matronly, but this one's definitely simpler, with a more subtle and monochromatic pattern that gives it an urban look.

This shirt is a dream to wear because the fabric is so soft and ultra light; it's the thinnest material I've ever felt. The Tilley Liberty Print Shirt is ideal for travel because it dries very quickly (right out of the washing machine, it dries in about 2 hours on my drying rack) and it doesn't need to be ironed (per care instructions, you're not even supposed to iron it!). I've worn this shirt with jeans, with black pants, and with a black skirt - every time I wear it I receive so many compliments. Liberty and Tilley make a wonderful team!

Bottom Line: It would be a shame to save this shirt for travel! Wear it to work, wear it out at night, wear it to dinner. I plan on wearing mine for years to come.--E.D. (Dec '10)
