Sugoi Convector Zip : Wicks, Breathes, Insulates

The more I review gear, the more I find myself drawn to running apparel. I'm a climber at heart, but I find that running gear often offers the sleekest, most athletic fit. Sugoi's Convector Zip is one such garment, and it's going to be a staple in my outdoor wardrobe for years to come.

Made out of a soft, woven polyester fabric, the Sugoi Convector Zip has a mock-turtleneck with a 1/4 zip. It's available in both men's and women's styles. (The women's tops are semi-fitted for a close fit--which is what you want in a wicking top.)

I tested a men's size L, and found it true-to-size. I like the thin-to-medium weight material, which is good for high-octane sports in temperatures in the 40s to low-50s. I also like that is has flat seams so there's no chafing.

As I alluded to earlier, I love the fit of the Sugoi Convector top.   The arms are of average length, and the back is on the longer side. This means I don't have to deal with the annoyance of having extra fabric in my hands as I'm running and my rear end stays warm. The athletic cut means the garment does it's job well but doesn't billow in the wind or let air creep up my back.

I have been running this fall in the Convector, and I love it. The hyper-breathable material is a real bonus. I can't believe how well it wicks moisture and how it keeps me so perfectly thermo regulated. I tend to sweat a lot, so when I say that a fabric wicks well, it wicks well!

The few times when I was hitting the red line and starting to overheat, I simply zipped down the top and found instant relief. The 1/4 zip offers a nice blend of comfort and additional cooling power. On chilly days, I like to wear it zipped up for neck protection. The zipper tucks into it's own little garage, so it's out of sight and out of mind.

The small details on the Convector shirt clearly demonstrate that Sugoi's designers are on point. The light reflectors on the shoulders help me get home safe at night from my runs. The 50+ UPF material keeps my skin protected.( Even when it's cold here in Colorado, the sun beats down!)

The top also provides a bit of insulation. For me, it's perfect for fall/winter/spring trail runs, snow shoe trips, and back country ski days. I'm sold.

Sugoi's Convector zip top is available for men in four colors (black, blue, gray, yellow) and in sizes S-XXL. The women's zip top comes in three colors (blue, green, white, and pink) and in sizes XS-XL. Sugoi also makes a long-sleeved crew-style top out of the same material called the Convector L/S.
