Smith Toaster Sunglasses : Versatile Cool

I admit it, I buy sunglasses based on how cool they make me look. But those sunglasses also have to provide excellent protection from the sun. In NZ's hot sun, polarized lenses are a must. The sun is just too bright here for regular sunglasses.

I wore my Toasters every day from the time I woke up until about 9 pm. Even on overcast, drizzly days, the sun's glare was too bright for my Seattle eyes. What I loved about the Toasters was how easily and quickly I could adjust my glasses to the fit the weather. When driving in the hot sun (or at the beach), I put in my black lenses. For overcast days, brown lenses protected my eyes and provided excellent visibility on the road and trail. During bush walks and hikes, where the sun was usually blocked by the trees, I used yellow lenses to reflect the glare and still have a crisp view of the plant life surrounding me.

The Toaster sunglasses (with interchangeable lenses) are a perfect fit for me. Smith makes a wide range of glasses for all activities, and most important to me, they have many styles available in smaller frames to fit women. Also, the Toaster frames are very lightweight, so I can wear them all day without getting nose marks. In fact, they're more comfortable than my prescription eyeglasses.

They're also quite durable; I accidentally dropped them in supermarkets, in caves, on beaches, and in my car and they never broke, cracked, or chipped.

Bottom Line: Trying to pack light, I wanted one pair of sunglasses that I could wear at the beach, on the trails, on the roads, and on boats. The Toasters turned out to be the ideal sunglasses. The polarized lenses were key; I didn't squint once!--E.D. (Feb '04)
