Salomon XA Pro 3D XCR Shoe : No Mountain High Enough
My first day out in these shoes, I went on a 24-mile hike/trail run in the steep and muddy Columbia River Gorge. It's not my typical Saturday afternoon adventure - I usually stick to more sane distances - so I was glad I had my new Salomon running shoes to get me through it. Salomon's XA Pro 3D XCR shoes are more breathable than my previous pair of Salomon Gore-Tex running shoes, which were a little too hot to handle in hot summer temps. Lightweight yet durable, the XA Pro 3D shoes performed well on muddy, rocky, wet terrain, both uphill and downhill. Yet the breathable, lightweight mesh fabric did not stand up to the rain as well. Granted, it rained ALL day, but by the end of the day, my feet were quite soggy. (I don't know if any shoe can stand up to a full day of Oregon rain). I am in love with Salomon's lacing system. Unlike traditional laces that often untie or loosen over time, Salomon's one-pull asymmetrical lacing system makes for easy adjustments that won't budge. The lacing system allows the shoe to adapt to both wide and narrow feet. A protective toe and heel guard provide an added sense of security for hopping over logs, bounding up slopes, and jumping streams. What I like most about the XA Pro 3D shoes is that I can wear them just about anywhere - both on the trail and off. They are so comfortable, in fact, that some days, I bike to work in them, wear them at work (at my standing desk), and bike home in them. I hardly took them off the first couple of weeks I had them. Available in women's and men's sizes. Bottom LIne: Trail runners and light hikers will love the lightweight and highly breathable construction. Just don't expect miracles during a long day in the rain - you will get wet. --B.B. (August '07) Price: $125 BUY ONLINE :REI.com
