Prana Sienna Pant

Every time my boyfriend and I go hiking, which is often, he carries the camera. Not because I'm a jerk who refuses to pull her own weight, but because I would have nowhere to put it. A lot of clothing designers seem to think that all women carry purses all the time, and therefore, the pockets on women's clothing are strictly ornamental - if there are pockets at all. This drives me batty.

Enter the prAna Sienna Pants. Constructed of sturdy cotton fabric with a hint of spandex, they feature no less than six wide, deep pockets, four of which have double snap closures. Carry the camera? Sure! I can also carry lip balm, car keys, a cell phone, spare batteries, a ski cap, a deck of cards, my toothbrush, a small water bottle, and a granola bar? No problem!

I have to admit...despite the many functional aspects I demand in a pant, I won't wear a pair of pants if they're ugly. Luckily, the prAna Sienna pants passed my style test with flying colors. The low-rise, straight-legged cut, articulated thigh seams, and accented contrast stitching all make these pants very flattering. I love the way they hug my hips and butt, but are never binding.

Thanks to the spandex, the Sienna Pants also passed my "can I wear these climbing" test. (The test, in a nutshell: if I can throw a high heel hook without ripping the fabric or pinching myself, they pass.) So I wear them for outdoor activities and for lounging around the house - sometimes on the same day.

I have the Espresso-colored Sienna pant; it's a rich, pigment-dyed brown that matches every item in my closet. I'm a big fan of earth tones. The pants are also available in a sage green somewhat confusingly called Dark Green. Maybe the green is darker than it appears on the web site.

Bottom Line: Rugged, comfortable, and chic, these pants can take you just about anywhere. Your other pants will get inferiority complexes. --S.G. (Dec '07)
