Mion Current Sandal : Footwear for Amphibious Sports

I saw my first Mion sandals at a kayak race in Hudson, NY. I was waiting in the rain for a hot dog at the award ceremony, which was being held on the deck of an outdoor shop called Mountain Buddies. The owner of the shop was wearing a pair of Mion sandals, and I had the fleeting impression that a Roman gladiator had (probably violently) appropriated a pair of Keen sandals. They looked like Keens--comfy, yet solid, but had a much funkier upper. Turns out, the same person who invented Keens invented Mion footwear.

I asked the shop owner if he liked his Mion sandals, and he went gaga.   This guy knew his sports apparel, so I got the whole technical spiel: "They have an ergomorphic custom-fit footbed," he said, "an easy floating rib lacing system, 360-degree lacing system, super grippy rubber soles and an anti microbial material in the foot bed so they don't stink. I love 'em!" Before handing me a bun and a dog, he called over his mother and father who were also wearing Mion sandals.

I'm happy to say that now I'm gaga, too. The coolest thing about these sandals is the merging of innovation and performance. They provide terrific traction in water and drain in a jiffy.

On land, they're so comfortable that you can jog in them with surprising ease. I got so fond of mine that this winter I wore them indoors and out. Last weekend I wore them to a party hosted by a friend of mine who delights in shredding my wardrobe. Within the first 15 seconds he looked at my feet, aghast, and said, "Dude, what are those?" Before I could spit out the name, another friend came to my aid. "Those are the coolest things I've ever seen. I need a pair." The conversation raged long enough so that the rest of my far shabbier wardrobe was spared.
