Merrell Prague Boot : Waterproof Comfort

I never expected my winter boots to feel like bedroom slippers. But the Merrell Prague boots feel nothing like the heavy, clunky clodhoppers I'm used to. They're light, trim, soft, and I'd even say, "cute." Still, they manage to keep my feet warm and dry.

Right out of the box, they felt supple and comfy. The first night I wore them, as I trotted between galleries during a First Friday artwalk, they fit like broken-in favorites rather than brand-new boots. The felt fabric around the ankle opening hugs my leg and keeps snow out, but the material is so soft that I never feel any hot spots (unlike I've experienced iwth stiffer boots I've worn).

Instead of a lug sole, the Prague has a very smooth, sticky rubber bottom. Initially I worried that it would prove slippery on wet and icy sidewalks. I was happy to be mistaken. Like the smooth-bottomed deck shoes favored by boaters, these boots stuck to slick surfaces and provided secure footing in snow.

The two Velcro closures make the Prague fast and easy to slip on and off, a useful featuare when going through airport security. Oh yea, they're also great-looking. The Prague's funky, sassy styling has attracted many compliments--just another reason that these boots haven't left my feet since I got them.

Bottom Line: Who says winter boots have to be clunky and chunky? -K.B. (Jan 09)
