Lowa Renegade GTX Boot : Super Soles
I miss out on a lot of lightweight trail shoes and boots because they're just not stable enough for me. I like and need a thick, firm sole that won't be too flexible in the forefoot. Thanks to Lowa, I've found a shoe and a boot that have all the comfort features I need. Starting from the bottom up, the Renegade GTX, available in both and shoe and a boot, is built with serious walking and hiking in mind. It has a thick, shanked Vibram "rocker" sole -- which means that with every step my foot "rocks" or really, rolls, from heel to toe without excessive forefoot flexion. So I get a stable ride without having to wear a rigid-soled boot, as well as protection from the terrain. The payoff: my bad foot never flares up so I can stay on the trial longer. I love the look of this boot. It's simple and straightforward, and I like the dark gray and blue nubuck leather. (I have enough brown boots!). I also appreciate the lacing system; the metal hoops and hooks are small and low profile enough that my pant legs don't get bunched up or tangled in them and they don't rub together when I take a step. With its GoreTex lining, the Renegade has been an ideal winter boot for me. I walk in the rain almost every day, and always come home with dry feet. Available in men's and women's sizes and in different widths. Bottom Line: These boots are ideal for daily walks, light hiking, and travel.--E.D. (Jan 08) Price: $180-217 Buy Online:
