Keen Bern High Boot : Hot to Trot

I looked all fall for just the right calf-high boot to get me through the winter here in the Pacific Northwest. Something stylish, comfortable, and versatile. A boot to slip on when it's cold and rainy, possibly snowy, or just plain chilly out. I knew I'd hit exactly what I wanted when I first pulled on Keen's Bern boot.

What first drew me to the Bern is the look: slightly distressed leather, thick contrast stitching on the front of the boot, and two buckles up near the top. A sweat step up from the outdoor boots I usually wear around town. I get compliments from total strangers when I wear these boots, from middle-agers to hip twentysomethings.

Finding a calf-high boot that fits my skinny legs can be tricky.   But these boots fit perfectly. With an elastic insert and adjustable buckles near the top, these zip-up boots hug my calves when I wear skirts but stretch around my jeans when I tuck them into the boot.

As with every pair of Keen footwear I've worn, the Bern boots were instantly comfortable. After several weeks of wearing them almost every day (because I love them so much!) these boots are still comfy, with no hidden pressure points that can have a way of sneaking up on me. I wear a size seven, and find these boots run true to size.

With our weather swerving from sub-freezing to rainy (with a bit of snow), I especially wanted some boots that would keep my feet and calves warm. I do a lot of walking around town, and the faux shearling lining that extends from the feet all the way to the top of the boot is both warm and soft.

The Bern boots are available in women's sizes 5 through 11 in three shades: Black, Orla (burgundy), and Crouton (lighter reddish brown).

Bottom Line: The Keen Bern boots are attractive, comfortable, and warm, and fit great.--J.I. (Jan 10)
