Kamik Powder Boots : Stylish and Serious

Imagine stylish parkas for your feet, and you’ve got a good idea of what there is to love about Kamik Powder boots.

As someone determined to get outside even in the coldest Minnesota weather, I long ago took drastic measures to avoid the misery of ice-cold toes – wearing the biggest, heaviest boots I could find.  To my delight, these Kamik boots have a nice tread, are lighter in weight, trimmer, and much easier to slip on and off than my old Sorels.  Because the Kamik Powder boots are so comfortable, long winter walks and snowshoeing are a pleasure.  No more dragging around a bulky five-pound boot on each foot, and even more important, no stiff boot rubbing against my calf.

Kamik claims these boots keep feet warm at temperatures as cold at –25° F, and, let me tall you: they DO.  I’ve worn mine in snow at -23° F below and was completely comfortable.  I’ve also worn these boots on days when it was a balmy 32° F and also was quite comfortable (no sweaty feet).

The lining is soft, but not overly fluffy, and it stays incredibly dry (I can’t recall my feet ever being damp or wet in these boots).  The boots even feel great on my bare feet, when I’ve quickly pulled them on to run out to shovel snow or to grab the mail.

When I ordered these boots, I expected them to be my ‘extreme’ weather boots this winter. Because they are so trim, normal-looking, and comfortable, I’ve found myself wearing them as everyday boots–on my commute to work on sloppy days or with jeans on errands around town.   Salt and dirt wipe off easily, so the boots continue to look nice.

I recently packed for a ski vacation, and was delighted to find that because the upper portion of the boot is flexible like a quilted parka, the boots packed compactly in my suitcase – a great bonus when other winter gear is bulky.

Bottom Line: I love these boots. I never knew I could keep my feet warm and looking good through a Minnesota winter. Also available in girls' sizes.--S.M. (Feb 06)
