I Can Breathe Mask : Don't Be Afraid to Cover Your Mouth

There are times when breathing can be hazardous to your health.

Sometimes air pollution can be so bad that someone like me gets asthma. Even people with normally health respiratory systems suffer from coughing, sneezing, and worse when traveling in highly polluted cities around the world.

Then, there's also the recycled air on airplanes to worry about. The longer the flight, the more you probably don't want to know what you're inhaling.

So, if, like me, you're not to keen on germs or you just want to avoid the impact of toxic city air, you'll get over worrying about your appearance and put on an I Can Breathe Mask. This lightweight mask is super easy to travel with because it folds flat and fits easily into a jacket pocket. It's also very comfortable to wear because it's adjustable and because it's so light. All I had to do was pinch together the top of the mask so that it fit around my nose, then place the elastic straps around my ears.

The mask is made out of a tan-colored latex-free mesh that's both washable and contains a thin, replaceable carbon filter. I found it very easy to breathe normally while wearing the mask on a recent flight. I like that the mask is thin and a neutral color - I don't stand out as much as I used to when I wore my heavy-duty white HEPA filter mask on flights.

Yes, donning a mask in public takes a bit of getting used to, and I do take it off when I walk the aisle to get to the restroom. Still, I have to figure that there are many on the plane who wish they had the guts to wear one. The filter is very effective. When I'm wearing this mask for other purposes, such as cleaning the house, chemicals and other toxic smells that would give me asthma or a headache don't get through. I wish I'd had this mask the last time I was in London, where the exhaust fumes on the highway gave me terrible headaches.
