Gregory Pyr Pack : Trail and Town and All Around
I needed a medium volume day pack, so I picked up a 19-Liter Gregory Pyr. I've been using it mostly around town, but I've taken it on a few day hikes as well. It's been a welcome companion. My favorite feature is the sizeable top-load front pocket. It's big enough to hold a light jacket, a book, or anything else that's too big for the side pockets but that I want to be able to grab or put away in a hurry. At the other end of the size and accessibility spectrum is a hidden Velcro pocket inside the main compartment that is perfect for securely stashing my wallet and keys. Another feature I like is the minimal waist belt. I carry things like a fleece jacket, water bottle, snacks, camera, and a few items for my toddler age daughter. None of it is heavy enough to justify a bulky load bearing hip-belt. I've only snapped the belt a couple times when I wanted to run or jump. I like the freedom of movement and ease of taking the pack off or swinging it to one shoulder without the belt. I've also grown fond of the externally accessible hydration bladder pocket. Dedicated zipper access makes refilling the bladder so easy because I don't have to shuffle the contents of the main compartment to get to the spout. I just open the zipper and there it is. Gregory has well over a dozen new, or newly re-designed, models ranging from medium volume day packs to expedition size backpacks. They also make several women-specific packs. Bottom Line: A very practical pack for day trips in the hills or a picnic at the park. --A.S (June '08) Price: $79 Buy Online: Manufacturer's Site: www.gregorypacks.com |
