Granite Gear Map Case : I Can See Clearly Now

I'm not a very organized person, so I really appreciate travel and outdoor accessories, such as Granite Gear's tough vinyl map cases, that help me keep important papers in one place and in flat, readable pieces.

On a recent weekend trip to the Olympic National Forest, I was glad I had a Granite Gear El Niño map case. It was raining the entire time I was there, so it was nice to have a completely waterproof covering on all of the maps and brochures I'd printed out for my destination (you know how inkjet ink runs when wet).

The case was large enough to hold 8.5" x 11" paper, simple to use, and held my papers securely. I liked the "slide-lock" style enclosure on the Granite Gear El Niño map case because I didn't have to fuss with it. I sealed the bag easily every time just by moving a small toggle along one side of the case to the opposite end. Easy.

Of course, the case's waterproofness is a key reason for using it, but I really liked its durability, too. When I wasn't using the case I tossed it in the back seat of the car, shoved it into a bag, or threw it into the trunk of my car. In fact, I was fairly careless with it, and in return, it held up well to my abuse! Thanks, Granite Gear.

The El Niño map case was created with paddlers in mind so it has adjustable elastic loops with plastic hooks on each corner, making it easy to attach to a canoe or to the outside of a pack.

Granite Gear makes map cases in three sizes.

Bottom Line: The Granite Gear El Niño map case is one of those items I never knew I needed, but now that I've used one I can't imagine not having it with me on every outdoor trip.--E.D.(Oct. '10)
