Freya Active Underwire Sports Bra : U.K. Scores Again

I just got back from an-hour long power walk. It's really humid today, despite the chilly over air that's trying to creep in, so I had a very sweaty workout.

So I'm surprised that my Freya Active Underwire Sports Bra feels pretty dry and doesn't smell at all. (Same goes for the top I wore.) Sure, it's obvious that there's some moisture in the material in places, but considering how hard I worked in it, I'm impressed.

Freya Active has done an excellent job in creating a wicking, breathable sports bra by using Coolmax fabric and strategically placed mesh panels. So I get excellent moisture management, which keeps me comfortable during my workout, keeps my bra functioning at top level in spite of moisture, and prevents skin irritation.

Like the wire-free Freya Active sports bra, the underwire model has the same features I love: a wide, four-hook enclosure (that has four settings - so it will last longer because I can adjust the bra tighter as it loosens with use); adjustable straps (they're quite elegant, lightly padded, and taper gracefully from front to back so that the widest part of the straps straddle my shoulders); and most important, serious support.

The bra fits like a glove, with no spillage under my arms, and the underwire is very supportive but completely unnoticeable. The cups are made of two layers of fabric that have enough give from side to side to give me a nice fit, but don't have any stretch from top to bottom. The mesh panels on the sides of each cup are also pretty stretch-free. The extra long underwire and wide enclosure both help give me an great a fit. My melons sit right in their cups nicely, and I like the side coverage, which is higher than I've found on other bras.

I rarely try to run in high impact bras because I feel more comfortable when my FF's are totally compressed because even when I feel supported I can feel the inside of my breast moving with the movement. This bra does a great job of holding me in place and supporting me, even when jogging. I had my friend watch me run toward her and she give me the thumbs up that my melons were not bouncing all over the place. Nice.

Available in sizes 30-38, D-H cup. Matching shorts come in XS-XL.

U.S. bra makers 0, U.K. bra makers 10. Who knew the country that got me addicted to scones would also offer me so many sports bra options. Maybe companies like Freya and Shock Absorber will inspire U.S. bra companies to start considering us large busted, small rib caged-active women.

Bottom LIne: This is one of my favorite sports bras because it really gives me superior support and breathability. It also minimizes my chest without giving me a uniboob, so I need to get a few more so I can wear it as an every day bra, too.--E.D. (Sept 09)
