Columbia Omni-Dry Silver Ridge 2 Long Sleeve Shirt : Snappy Rural Casual

I've been on the lookout for a lightweight long sleeve performance-type shirt that doesn't make me look like I'm on my way to a Star Trek convention.

I finally found what I wanted in Columbia's Titanium Omni-Dry line. I love that the Silver Ridge 2 Long Sleeve Shirt looks like a normal everyday button-up shirt: buttons on the cuffs, breast pockets, fold down collar, etc. More than it's normal appearance, I love that it keeps me dry and cool.

I was able to shirk my responsibilities on a recent warm spring day and head to the hills for a hike.   I had previously worn my Silver Ridge 2 shirt on a couple of lowland hikes with the kids but this was the first time I really broke a sweat in it.   I was super stoked when I realized the sweat patch on my back had completely dried during my first break. There was no jolt of cold when I re-shouldered my pack.

I was in the shade of the forest, but the trail was gaining elevation, so I thought I'd roll-up the sleeves to keep cool.   The lightweight fabric doesn't stay rolled-up on it's own very well, but fortunately the folks at Columbia realized that and installed a button strap to hold up the sleeves. I rolled them back down when I got to the still snow-covered lake to take advantage of the SPF40 rating.

The Silver Ridge 2 Shirt is available with long and short sleeves in men's, women's, and children's sizes.

Bottom Line :  A loose & comfortable fit, smart features, and modern materials make this a shirt well suited to a variety of adventures.--A.S. (May 09)
