Columbia Jewel Peak Sweater : Actually, it's a Jacket
This little gem is the surprise find of the season. The Jewel Peak Sweater, which is actually a jacket, is a simple, lightweight insulating layer that also works well (and looks great) as an outer layer. When I first saw this jacket at REI I fell in love with the diamond pattern quilting (the black color helps, too) that makes this jacket seem too stylish for hard work. But a closer look revealed something I rarely see on casual jackets or on many similar jackets in this price range -- pit zips! They sure come in handy when I'm powerwalking. I also like the soft fleece collar lining, the hidden zippered securtity pocket on the inside of the jacket, the two zippered side pockets, and the small zippered chest pocket (where my lip balm stick lives). I've been wearing this jacket non-stop for a few weeks - as a mid-layer and as an outer layer - in temps ranging from 38-50. It's provent to be a versatile jacket. Bottom Line: This is the perfect type of jacket to give as a gift. Urban women will love it. Outdoors women will love it. Athletic women will love it. Available in white, blue, black.--E.D. (Dec.
