Asics Gel-FX Cross Training Shoe : For the Gym

I was looking for a gym shoe, something with more lateral support than a running shoe and more streamlined than a court shoe.

I found the fit and performance I was looking for in the Asics Gel-FX cross training shoe. It looks like a running shoe, it's lightweight like a running shoe, and it has the same gel cushioning in the heel and forefoot. But the Gel-FX acts more like a court shoe, providing surprisingly good lateral support, even in the forefoot.

The shoes were immediately comfortable. They fit well in the heel and have a wide enough forefoot for my Frodo-like feet. I've noticed that a few web sites that sell these shoes recommend buying 1/2 size smaller. I did feel that I had some extra space in the front of the shoe, but not enough to go down in size. Then again, I wear a full-size custom orthotic, which probably takes up the extra space.

Available in men's and women's sizes, and in two colors.

Bottom Line:   These are fantastic gym shoes. I wear them primarily for strength training and for shooting baskets in the gym. I never thought I could have excellent support during side-to-side movements in such a lightweight shoe.--E. D. (April '07)
