LOKSAK Airtight Bags : Affordable Dry Sacks for Trail and Travel

I just discovered an inexpensive way to keep my gear dry during rainy outings: LOKSAK airtight bags!

I used a small aLoksak resealable bag months ago to keep my camera dry on a wet hike, but I didn't receive the range of different sized bags until recently. I love them! They're easy to use (and use and use), they're "tested and approved" by the Navy Experimental Diving Unit, and some day, when they're ready for retirement, they can be recycled.

The aLoksaks I've been using seal tightly, never let in water, and help me keep small items organized. I have walked for miles in the rain (on trails and around town) and arrived at my destination with a soaking wet pack and the contents of my aLoksaks completely dry. What a relief!

I like these bags because they're so much cheaper than dry sacks. They're flat, like a sandwich bags, so they're best for small or thin items. Here's how I use my favorite sizes:

-The 6"w x 12"l aLoksak is idea for my small volume day pack. I can fit a wallet, cell phone, and few cosmetic items into it or a pair of thin glove liners or an extra pair of socks. Three filled aLoksas fit will into my pack. ($10 /pack of 3)

-The 9"w x 6"l bag is perfect for travel because it's see-through and easily holds five 1.5 ounce bottles. (I can fit a sixth bottle in there, but like having some extra space in the bag). I also don't have to worry about my bottles leaking because the aLoksak is just as good at keeping my leaky shampoo in the bag as it is at keeping water from entering the bag. ($7.50/pack of 3)

-The 13.5"w x10.5"l aLoksak gives me added protection when I need to transport my 12" PowerBook on rainy days. I just slip in the laptop, press the seal to "lock" the bag closed, and place it in my padded computer bag.

-The 12"w x 12"w is ideal for papers and files. It keeps everything dry and crinkle-free on days I walk to meetings. ($11.75 /pack of 3)

Loksak makes a variety of waterproof bags and accessories. They're generally sold in multi-packs of same size or varied size bags.

Bottom Line: Convenient, effective waterproof storage for transporting gadgets and equipment, important papers, and more. --E.D. (December '10)
